About Florida License Plates
Florida began issuing license plates in 1918. From 1938 to 1977, plate numbers used a numeric county code prefix. The codes were originally assigned by population. Dade county got number 1, Duval got number 2, and so on up to 67, which went to rural Liberty County. This website celebrates this “golden” age of Florida license plates in pictures.
